Re: What is the best pip length ?
The optimal pip length for long pips is primarily based on ball size. There are secondary parameters but I will address them in a separate post to minimize confusion
This of course based on the implicit understanding that the original initially intended purpose for invention of long pips was to maximize backspin for away from the table choppers.
The original initially intended purpose for invention of long pips was NOT deception for close to the table blockers as it has evolved to later given that the choppers have been successfully & systematically exterminated by the (click link >) robotNazis
controlled ITTF with the (click link >) 14 rule and regulation changes since 1977 by the ITTF
Based on above understanding, below are the optimal pip length for various ball sizes
Please note that the 44 mm ball is not ITTF approved but is used in Japan & companies like Juic actually make some pips for this ball size The current maximum allowed ITTF pip length is 2.05 mm. It was 2.00 mm from 1977 to 2024
The pip length was higher than 2.00 mm before 1977 . ITTF set the maximum allowed pip length to 2.00 m to ban long pips at the Birmingham BGM
It stayed that was till 2024 when ITTF increased the maximum allowed pip length from 2.00 mm to 2.05 mm but this has absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with their desire to help pips players. ITTF did it because in this change in 2024, ITTF also increased maximum allowed total rubber thickness from 4.00 mm to 4.05 mm. This was done actually to protect the robotNazis who illegally boost & spein glue their rubbers ........the boosted or spein glued rubber actually expands past the previous limit of 4.00 mm. So in effect ITTF is doing this protect the booster cheats, even though boosting and spein gluing is clearly unapproved under rule 2.4.7 & regulation 3.4.2.2 of ITTF statutes
Increasing the pip length does not helps pips players in anyway...........because the optimum pip length is about 2.5 mm for the 40 plastic ball ONLY era is 2.50 mm ...........it is not 2.05 mm. the difference is huge. But the pips players , especially the ignorant chopper fools are TOTALLY clueless about all this & continue to worship & support the robotNazis controlled iTTF.
Of course there is an optimal pip length for every ball size & type & the pip length cannot be too long because if they are , it becomes almost totally difficult to control. If it is too short as it is now at 2.05 mm, it is useless for choppers & ITTF knows this only all too well.
