These are the best blocking & chopping rubbers available for the 40+ plastic ball only era
After the (click link >) 18 rule and regulation changes since 1977 by the (click link >) robotNazis controlled ITTF to limit chopper & blocker pips rubbers

Note : "on steroids" is not meant literally but only just functionally.
Neither Reach C801 nor Magic 77 are chemically treated rubbers.

I own both:

Reach C-801 harder pips difficult to flex so better for play close to the table, pip seems a little bit longer than Magic77, aren't slim flex pips to chop away the table.

Magic77 nos as harder like the Reach c-801 but still difficult to flex so not the same like Feint Long, this can be more all round, note that are not slim flex pips to chop far away the table that are the best for classical defense.

If you are looking long pip for classical defense my advice buy Reach C-8, far easy than C801 & a lot of more effective.

Problem is that Tournament Directors are refusing to allow non-ITTF-LARC rubbers
Even though these are not ITTF sanctioned tournaments
As far as I know any tournamnet director for a tournamnet that is NOT listed on ITTF calendar can allow non-ITTF-LARC rubbers if they choose to.
But they refuse, even though they all gladly allow illegal boosters / speed glues
Very unfair & very frustrating

This is true.
However since choppers are a small in number compared to large number of booster cheats & since choppers are also are also totally clueless spineless morons and do not understand all this, tournamnet directors choose booster cheats over choppers .
If you apply ITTF rules to booster cheats you will almost have no players left LOL

But I thought ITTF rules carried over to ITTF affiliates

ITTF affiliates are not mandated to apply each and every ITTF rule & regulation unless it is an ITTF sanctioned tournaments (listed on ITTF calendar)

Which version would you recommend for a close to table block-chop style

There are two versions of Reach C8, one 2.5mm high (old) and the other 3.0mm high (new).

BTW it looks like the one with higher pip length of 3.0 mm is called c-801 it seems , if I am not mistaken

As you know Chinese products are not always well described so package red is C-8 & package blue is C-801.
