Here is PingPongPom from New Zealand interviewing Thiago Monteiro from Brazil
I was laughing hard where Thiago Monteiro talks about amateurs seeking validation for their equipment desperately from a pro.
Will the amateurs ever understand
1. Most top pros use highly customized blades & probably rubbers. Even if the logo says one thing (for purely advertising and sponsorship purposes) , the actual blade or rubber could be entirely something.
2. Even if a pro is using the exact same blade and rubber that an amateur is using, the pro is a pro because they have superior skills. Simply using a racket just because your favorite pro is using it does not make you a better a player. In fact in a lot of cases you should not even be using the same racket that your favorite pro is using. Worse, even your playing style may be completely different from the pro you worship.
